Engineering Sports Day

In case you missed it earlier, Engineering Sports Day, a combined effort from all the schools of engineering, will be held on Thursday week 3, 5 August.

There will be a free BBQ lunch which CSESoc will be helping with, however we need some volunteers to help us fulfill our part. There will be a lot of BBQs running on the day to cater for all engineering students so if you'd like to help out, email csesoc@cse.unsw.edu.au.

There will also be a Touch Footy competition between the engineering schools. There will be two tournaments, the main one and an additional social one. If you'd like to join the CSE team in either tournament (depending on numbers you could be in both too), email csesoc@cse.unsw.edu.au. We need numbers by this Thursday (week2) so get in soon!

Otherwise, feel free to come along, enjoy the festivities (eg the helicopter landing), and support our CSE team!

Week 1: Paul's Party + Kooloora + Eng Sports Day + Social + Beta + BBQ

Paul's Retirement Party

Just a reminder that as students of the school of CSE, you are invited to attend Paul's retirement party this Friday. Paul Compton, an important and beloved member of the CSE family, is retiring from his position as Head Of School this year, and us CSE Students would like to honour his time and dedication to the school with a farewell event.

RSVP here by Wednesday as there will be limited numbers. Light refreshments will be provided on the night.

If you cannot make it on the night but would like to contribute to saying goodbye, please email csesoc.farewell@cse.unsw.edu.au with farewell messages for Paul, or photos to add to a slide show for the evening.

When: Friday week 1, 23 July
Where: K17 Seminar Room
RSVP: http://www.csesoc.unsw.edu.au/paul_farewell_cse/

Kooloora Community Centre

The first tech event of this session will be setting up computers at Kooloora Community Centre in Malabar, just past the Long Bay Jail and amongst a great deal of low income government housing.

The centre runs a plethora of programs from electricity assistance and community markets to computer classes and childcare. Unfortunately, like many community centres, Kooloora is heavily underfunded yet they still pay a few thousand dollars a year in technical support / MS licensing fees. This is where you can help make a difference.

We will be installing ubuntu (or something similar) on their computers, setting them up, making sure they have the latest updates, etc.

There will be a meeting on Wednesday 21 July, 4pm in the K17 Basement to figure out the exact details of when and how (most likely in week 2 and by bus) we will be visiting the centre. Come along if you're interested. If you can't make it, email csesoc.tech.head@cse.unsw.edu.au for more info.

Engineering Sports Day

It's nearly that time of year again! Engineering Sports Day will be held on Thursday week 3, 5 August. There will be a BBQ lunch, the helicopter landing on the oval, and the sports (touch footy) competition. If you'd like to join the CSE team, email csesoc@cse.unsw.edu.au, otherwise just come along and support our school and enjoy the festivities!

Social Meeting

Our social team will be having a meeting this Friday, week 1, from 12-1pm in the K17 Basement to discuss the upcoming events for this session and come up with more ideas. If you can't make it but still want to get involved, email csesoc.social.head@cse.unsw.edu.au

Beta Meeting

The Beta team will be having a meeting this Wednesday, week 1, at 5pm in the K17 Basement. If you'd like to contribute to this session's magazine, come along or email csesoc.beta.head@cse.unsw.edu.au

Weekly BBQ

Come along to CSESoc's free weekly BBQs on Wednesdays from 12.30-1.30pm at the John Lions Lawn (just outside K17). Unfortunately we're rather short on helpers this session, so if you'd like to contribute, either by setting up, cooking, serving, or packing up, let us know at csesoc.social.head@cse.unsw.edu.au.
