Basic stuff
Everything on this site is organised on three levels: sections, stories, and comments. Each section contains a list of stories; each story contains some text (like what you're reading now) and possibly some comments (at the bottom of the page). Simple, right?
Comments
Any registered user can post a comment on a story. At the bottom of the text, there's a gray bar with a bunch of menus, and a "Post a Comment" link (if you don't see it, you're not logged in). Just click on it; the rest is pretty straightforward. Don't forget to use the "preview" button before you post.
Comments appear right at the bottom of the page. You can reply to an existing comment using its "reply to this" link. (Please don't post anything offensive. You have been warned.)
If a story is in the editing queue, you can post "editorial" comments; these have a red heading, and disappear once the story becomes visible to everyone.
Sections
There's a list of links right at the top of the page, next to the logo. A few of them are "special pages", like the FAQ; the others are sections, and contain stories.
All of these sections are visible to anyone, except for the Forum section. You must log in to read stories and post comments in that section.
Moderation
When people submit stories to the forum, you can vote on whether these stories will be posted. Just click the "moderate submissions" link after you've logged in.
If too many people vote against a story, it'll be deleted.
Posting Stories
You might have noticed the "submit story" link. If you've got something to say, you can say it by clicking on this link. Type your story in the form that appears (the second box is for the stuff that only appears after clicking on "Full Story"). Again, don't forget to use the "preview" button.
Stories posted to the Diary section will appear immediately. In other sections, it'll go into a voting queue.
Polls
When you submit a story, you may also create a poll to go with it. It will be displayed when people read the story, and they will be able to vote and view the results.
Admins can also place polls on the front page.
